Loaded for Bear

Innovators Lead

In 2019, Loaded for Bear set out to do just one thing: hand-made premium quality audio cables. Built to last. Offering a Lifetime Guarantee on cables, Loaded for Bear’s mission is to reduce the amount of broken or faulty music equipment ending up in landfill.

Loaded for Bear’s Jon Tipler was straightforward with his aim of creating simple quality products with minimal environmental impact. It was clear that these values should be the cornerstone of the brand.

Milton Glaser’s BabyTeeth was a typeface that I felt communicated the brand’s core values: quality and simplicity. The robust, geometric shapes indicate reliability and it is a typeface synonymous with timeless classics.

If you’re interested you can find their full range of products, as well as custom cables.

What’s better than recyclable packaging?

Packaging that you never throw out!

When you’re making music, cables need to be easy to access when they’re needed and non-obstructive when they’re not. A hook was a natural solution to this problem.

This initial packaging concept was made of thick recycled card, that the user could tear along the perforated edge. The hook could then be screwed in place, folded and utilised for a tidy storage solution.

Interactive Installation

A brand with different values deserves a different kind of promotion. Around the time of the launch, I constructed these two playable posters. Using graphite-based conductive ink and a small Arduino, these posters allow passers-by to play notes and tweak the sounds using the printed shapes. Turning print into an instrument allows anyone to experience the joy of plugging in and playing, regardless of knowledge or skill.
